Every reader of fantasy football projections, and indeed every fantasy football enthusiast, must ask themselves one question: why do I play this game, anyway?
I had to admit that upon reading this article today, I gained some perspective about what fantasy football is all about. For too many years, I have taken this game way too seriously. It is time that the game became fun again.
The most important thing you can do this season is to have fun. Of course, winning the championship would make things more fun. But a new perspective on draft day always helps. Apparently, the most important things about draft day are no longer which players to select and when, and what fantasy football sleepers will give you the edge.
Here is my favorite tip from the article, one which I’ll probably use to my advantage with 2 rookie owners coming into the league this year. With this and the other great tips provided, I guarantee you’ll have a blast at your draft. I wouldn’t advise the part about the laptop, though.
DO: Bring an extra cheat sheet. But not an entirely honest one. Every year, someone’s going to show up without a cheat sheet, and ask if they can borrow one from someone else. When this happens … be ready.
Make a fake cheat sheet, intentionally designed to screw the guy who didn’t bring one. You can’t make it too obvious … if you have Drew Bennett as the #1 wide receiver, that’s going to tip it off.
Better to just leave out a bunch of key names … not guys who they’d necessarily notice, but guys who could be good picks in the 3rd round on. Marshawn Lynch, Joe Horn, whoever … no one too famous, but guys you like, and you can con at least one other person into not taking. It’s an investment of time, but it could be worth it.
